Safety Notice: IKEA Wall Lamps

IKEA have released the following notice:

Update – 16th December 2013

IKEA urges all customers that have an IKEA SMILA wall mounted lamp to check immediately that the lamp and cord are out of reach of children when in a cot or playpen and securely fastened to the wall. Loose lamp cords can present a strangulation hazard to infants and young children.

Customers are asked to contact Ikea via their Customer Services on 0203 645 0010, the Customer Service Returns area of their local IKEA store or use their online form to receive a free safety kit containing a warning label, safety instructions and self adhesive fasteners for fixing the lamp cord to the wall.

IKEA reminds customers that any corded product such as a window covering or blind can present a strangulation hazard. Accessible cords should always be kept
out of reach of young children.

Lamp cords can present a strangulation hazard to infants and toddlers if placed too close to a cot or playpen.

IKEA urges all customers that have an IKEA SMILA wall lamp or any other corded wall-mounted lamp to check immediately that the lamp and cord are out of arm’s reach of their child in a cot or playpen and that the cord is securely fastened to the wall.

Please contact customer services in-store or on 0203 645 0010 to receive a cord warning label about the strangulation risk.
