Free personalised allergy alerts

To mark Allergy Awareness Week the Food Standards Agency (FSA) are launching a much more improved subscriber service, that lets you personalise alerts based on the allergens you want to hear about.

AllergensWe and the FSA believe that everybody deserves food they can trust. But if you live with a food allergy or care for someone who does, it’s even more important that you get the right information to make safe food choices.

A better allergy alert service
If you are already one of the FSA’s allergy alert subscribers, you already know that they send you a free allergy alert – via email or text – each time a food product is recalled or withdrawn because it poses an allergy risk.

However, they want to make this better. You can now select any of the top 14 allergens that you would like to receive alerts about; or you can choose to sign up for all of them, if you prefer.

About food allergies
Food allergies are life changing. In the UK they affect around 8% of children and 2% of adults, which translates to an estimated 2 million people living with food allergies, and 600,000 (1 in 100) with coeliac disease.

Here at Suffolk Trading Standards, we will continue to work with local food manufacturers, producers and retailers to ensure they meet the requirements of food labelling regulations.  We will also continue to update our blog with recalls and allergy alerts on a daily basis.

If you have any consumer concerns about food labelling or you are a business that would like some advice please contact the Citizens Advice consumer service on 03454 040506.
