Samsung Fridge Freezer Recall

The manufacturer has issued the following notice:

Samsung Electronics have announced a programme to visit the homes of customers in the UK and Ireland to resolve an issue that is potentially related to certain now-discontinued RS21 and RS60 range of fridge freezers, manufactured between March 2005 and June 2006.

Samsung Electronics has decided to take this action following investigations into a possible deject in the assembly of the models’ defrost system.

In very rare cases, there is possibility of internal sparking to occur which may pose a potential fire risk, in even fewer cases, it may lead to a potential safety issue or structural damage to the appliance.

Although the possibility of this occuring is very low, for the safety of consumers, Samsung has decided to undertake a free in-home inspection and repair programme for all affected fridge freezers.  As a precautionary measure, Samsung will also include the following fridge freezers with a similar defrost system as a part of the programme.

The extended models include RS21 and RS60 (outside of the above dates of manufacturer), SN62, RSE8, RSH1 and RSJ1.

Hotpoint Quadrio Fridge Freezer Recall

Hotpoint Quadrio Fridge Freezer may short circuit.

Recall Issue

Hotpoint is recalling a number of Hotpoint Quadrio Fridge Freezers due to an issue with the wiring. A mains cable in the fridge freezer can short circuit when the door is opened potentially causing a flash or bang as the circuit shorts out.

Whilst Hotpoint accept that this may be alarming to consumers they say it is not a safety issue and there is no risk of an electric shock from touching the handles or any of the metal parts of the fridge freezer as the wire that shorts out is completely isolated from the rest of the fridge.

Whilst Hotpoint say there is no safety issue they have re-stated that these fridge freezers should be turned off at the mains before cleaning!

On Hotpoint’s web site they say “We accept that this failure is not in keeping with our normal high product quality standards and we apologise unreservedly for any inconvenience caused as a result of this”.

This issue with the Hotpoint Quadrio Fridge Freezer was highlighted by the BBC’s Watchdog program in October 2011.

Hotpoint is recalling the affected Quadrio Fridge Freezers and modifying the defective wiring.
